Objectives:
To promote gun safety
To promote shotgun sports leading to participation in national and international competition
The Program: Shooting instruction and practice will follow a lecture on safety and shotgun basics.

Lecture and demonstration outline
Basic gun safety
Range and hunting safety practice
Types of guns
Defining Gauge and Shot size
Types of Ammunition and recoil
Mounting gun and stance


Field instruction may be on a trap or skeet field or both. Younger shooters will use extra-light loads or feather-light loads to reduce recoil. A responsible adult must accompany youths.

Field exercises will vary with age, size and experience of the shooters. Each shooter will have the opportunity to shoot up to 50 targets. Young shooters will begin with straightaway targets. At trap, shooting may be from a position forward of the normal singles/16 yard line. Various types of shotguns are available for loan at the Range Office.

Cost - Adult participants pay a $15.00 fee that includes instruction and 1 round of 25 targets. Youths under 18 years pay $10.00. The regular day-use fee is waived for this activity. Fees are to be paid in advance at the range office. No-shows will not receive a refund. Sessions are limited to 10 participants

Participants must provide their own ammunition.  Ammunition can be purchased at the Range or brought with you.  Various types of shotguns will be available for loan at the Range. The number of participants in each session is limited to ten.

A responsible adult must accompany each youth participant.  Please note that only instructors and students are allowed on the field (inside the fence) during shooting.

SAN DIEGO Shotgun Sports provides eye protection without charge and reusable hearing protection at 50 cents.  Ammunition is available for purchase at the range.

* Youths/Juniors are defined at SAN DIEGO Shotgun Sports as anyone under the age of 18 years.
